On 15 January 2026,  CATIB held their Equipment Move-in Ceremony for the First Cell Production Line, which marked a significant achievement in the development of Indonesia’s battery manufacturing ecosystem. The ceremony celebrated progress across three major fronts: movement of key production equipment, first battery pack roll-off, and the signing of a strategic cooperation agreement that strengthens Indonesia’s position within the global electric vehicle (EV) supply chain.

These milestones reaffirm the strong partnership between Indonesia and China, reflecting on the collective effort to build an integrated and competitive battery industry in Indonesia.

First Cell PRD Line Equipment Moving: A Key Step Toward Production Readiness

One of the highlights in the ceremony was the first cell PRD line equipment moving, a pivotal step in preparing the facility for full-scale production. This phase involved relocating and installing manufacturing equipment that will form the backbone of battery cell production. The movement of this equipment signifies that infrastructure development is progressing rapidly, moving the facility closer to operational readiness.

Inaugural MP BEV First Pack Roll-Off: From Installation to Output

Another highlight of the celebration was the Inaugural MP BEV First Pack Roll-Off, signifying the first successful production of a battery pack from the Module & Pack (MP) plant. This is more than a symbolic achievement, the roll-off represents the culmination of months of planning, equipment installation, and workforce preparation.

It shows that this facility is now capable of producing finished battery packs, marking a shift towards commercial operations. This achievement is important as it demonstrates functional manufacturing capacity and positions the facility to support the growing demands of the EV industry.

Strategic Cooperation Agreement: CATL & MIND ID Long-Term Partnership

A key moment of the ceremony was the signing of a Strategic Cooperation Agreement between CATL and MIND ID. This agreement solidifies the partners’ commitment to advancing Indonesia’s battery value chain from upstream raw materials to downstream manufacturing and technology development.

As a joint venture under PT Contemporary Amperex Technology Indonesia Battery (CATIB), the collaboration brings together global technology leadership and domestic industrial capabilities. They plan to build an integrated production facility in Karawang, targeting initial capacity of approximately 6.9 GWh with the potential to expand to 15 GWh in later phases.
