Karawang Artha Industrial Hill, Karawang, July 3, 2025 – A significant milestone in the development of Indonesia’s electric vehicle industry was marked by the Groundbreaking Ceremony of the Integrated Electric Vehicle Battery Industry Ecosystem, held at Karawang Artha Industrial Hill, Karawang, on Sunday, June 29, 2025.
According to Kompas.com, this project is one of six initiatives developed in an integrated manner by PT Aneka Tambang Tbk (ANTAM), Indonesia Battery Corporation (IBC), and Ningbo Contemporary Brunp Lygend Co., Ltd. (CBL), a joint venture formed by CATL, Brunp, and Lygend.
The Karawang project is part of a broader downstream battery industry strategy across two key locations—Karawang and East Halmahera—with a total investment of USD 5.9 billion, covering 3,000 hectares and projected to directly employ more than 8,000 workers. This project operates under the CATIB (Contemporary Amperex Technology Indonesia Battery) framework and is designated as part of the National Strategic Projects (PSN).
The event was led by the President of the Republic of Indonesia, Prabowo Subianto, and attended by several ministers, consortium representatives, and honorary guests from partner countries, including Chinese Ambassador to Indonesia, Wang Lutong.
Ambassador Wang Lutong’s presence marked a significant moment in Indonesia–China bilateral relations, especially in the development of electric vehicle battery industries. He attended as a representative of China’s support for the ongoing technology and investment cooperation between the two nations.
Chinese companies within the CBL consortium play a strategic role in this project. Their commitment strengthens not only economic ties but also supports the domestic industrial structure.
Wang Lutong was one of the key figures who witnessed the project’s commencement at Karawang Artha Industrial Hill. His attendance symbolized that this initiative is not merely a business collaboration, but a part of long-term diplomatic relations between Indonesia and China.
With this project, Karawang Artha Industrial Hill is positioned as a strategic industrial area within the electric vehicle battery supply chain. The development of an integrated upstream-to-downstream ecosystem is expected to accelerate Indonesia’s emergence as a key global player in the electric vehicle sector.
